Outstanding Teaching and Learning (OTL)

Who its for?

The OTL is a three-day, face to face course designed for teachers with a solid foundation in pedagogy and well-developed teaching practices. It aims to further enhance their teaching and serves as an excellent stepping stone for those looking to acquire high level skills and strategies to enable them to be consistently outstanding. It is also an ideal stepping stone for those looking to advance into middle leadership roles.

Course content

The OTL course is designed to inspire and impact through a focus on pedagogy and practice. Key areas include:

· Knowledge Retention: Techniques to help students retain information effectively.

· Metacognition: Strategies to enhance students’ awareness of their own learning processes.

· Reflective Practice: Encouraging teachers to reflect on their teaching methods and outcomes.

· Live Lesson Study: Engage in a live lesson study scenario.

· Expert Sessions: Learn from sessions led by the English, Maths, and IT Directors.

Additional topics covered include:

· Managing Difficult Behaviours: Positive strategies for handling challenging behaviours.

· Adaptive Teaching: Techniques for tailoring teaching to meet diverse student needs.

· Effective Use of Additional Staff: Maximizing the impact of support staff in the classroom.

The course also integrates information on instructional coaching and mentoring, providing a comprehensive framework for professional development.
